I wish there is an option to give NO STAR to this!
It all started when I ordered one book from Cooks Illustrated called “Best International Recipe”. I got my book and two months later, I received another book that I DID NOT order, accompanied with a bill. So I called their customer service about this and I was told that when I bought the book I ordered, they automatically signed me up to receive all future books from that entire series! This sounds totally ridiculous to me, and plus I didn’t even see any disclosure about this, or any option to have them not to do so, when I bought the book I ordered. Despite all these, I diligently followed their instruction to print out a return label and went to the post office and sent them back the book. Another two months later, I got another bill from them, with the original amount they were billing me, plus all the late fee charges….
I am speechless. I am wondering, how sad it is that in our great country of freedom and consumer rights, there exists companies such as this?
P.S., So I cancelled immediately my online subscription to cooks illustrated website; and not surprisingly found out: their so called best recipe books are not even that good AT ALL!!!
So watch out when you start any sort of financial relationship with any Cooks Illustrated companies/websites. PROTECT YOUR RIGHTS!

I purshased this magazine as part of a wedding present for a friend who lived on the east coast. A year later when I was recieving subscription renewal notices I asked that friend whether or not he had found it useful. He had never recieved a single issue. The complaint I filed was never acknowledged. I consider this very poor service.

sorry, but I don’t feel like their experiments are very well done. They just don’t seem to have thought things through, or researched at all, before trying stuff out. Issues are short and fail to innovate.

Great product, but Cook’s has major customer service issues. Was decieved, lied to, and treated very poorly by their staff after ordering a book for the holiday’s (it arrived a week late!) I’d avoid any company that treats its
PAYING customers this poorly.

If you have all the time in the world to cook, then this black and white magazine is for you. The recipes are definately NOT something you can do in an hour or less. Plus, many of the ingredients the recipes call for are hard to find. I’ve been receiving the magazine for 6 months now and haven’t made anything from it yet. Don’t waste your time unless you are a gourmet chef.
